Supporting D-Day Veterans

Posted on 5th June 2014

Tomorrow marks the 70th anniversary of D-day and the commemorative celebrations are in full swing on Southsea Seafront. A moving display from the Red Arrows, a drumhead ceremony,  military parades and a sunset concert by Bournemouth Symphony Orchestera just some of the exceptional events that have happened and continue to happen this week.

With Portsmouth having played such a pivotal role in the D-Day operations it is with great pride that we will be supporting the Museum and the future D-Day 75 celebrations with substantial funding raised by this years event.

The funding put forward by Victorious Festival as a percentage of the ticket sales will go towards a complete redevelopment of the museum.  This substantial upgrade will make it the greatest D-Day commemorative attraction in the world, something the City of Portsmouth should be incredibly proud to host.

Combined with Portsmouth City Council, The Heritage Lottery Fund and other local businesses fundraising, the modernised museum will be completed in time for the D-Day 75 events.

You can read the D-Day museum plans of development and fundraising strategy here in more detail and even donate yourself to help reach the total.

Taking the time to remember those who sacrificed a great deal for us is incredibly important and will remain so for generations to come. Helping the D-Day Museum secure their future plans would not only be a great achievement for Portsmouth, but also attract a worldwide audience who will be able visit this attraction and learn about this poignant part of our history.

So get down to Southsea Seafront now, and take part in this fantastic weekend marking the 70th anniversary of D-Day!
